Winter 2021-2022 Weather Forecast for Rochester

What does it mean for your furnace and home heating?

It happens every year here in Rochester, you can bet on that. When it happens changes every year though. What am I talking about, the first frost? First snow? First sub-zero night? Nope. I’m actually referring to that week or two that we get every year when you dress for 4 seasons in one day. You know what I mean: It’s 48 degrees when you leave for work, 65 at lunch, and 78 in the middle of the afternoon. It is impossible to dress comfortably for this weather, so good luck trying to keep your home at a comfortable temperature. Please tell me that mine isn’t the only home to have the A/C and heat running on the same day. Anyone?

If someone in Rochester were to rub a bottle and meet a genie, they’d really only have one wish or question left, after: Will the Bills win the Super Bowl, and What will our winter be like? It seems that everyone else has made their prediction, so, without further adieu, here is my foolproof prediction so that you know what to expect from this winter in Rochester.

It will be cold.

It will snow.

Roads will be treacherous at times.

You will need to turn the heat on.

This may not be supremely helpful, and certainly lacks some specifics, but come Spring my forecast will be spot on I think. Taking a look at our average temperature and precipitation gives you a pretty good idea what to expect:

So, while there are some outliers, warmer months, or even whole seasons, by and large, we get what we get. One other assurance that I can make: Ignoring an issue with your furnace or home heating system because of a forecast for a mild winter is NOT a successful strategy for home comfort. Even if we have a very mild winter, we will still have multiple days with a RealFeel below zero. We will have weeks that don’t approach 40 degrees, and we will all be thankful that our home is heated comfortably, evenly, and reliably.

Since we got that out of the way, what are some things that you should check now, when it’s in the 70’s outside to assure a comfortable winter? Regardless of how new or old your furnace and heating system is, you will want to be sure it is functioning properly before you need it. If you have any doubts about the age or condition of your home heating equipment or system, you will

never regret requesting a local HVAC contractor to perform a routine checkup and following their maintenance recommendations. Assuming that you followed our previous furnace maintenance tips, you should be in good shape, and should have few worries as we head into winter. And, if your furnace and heating system have gotten the A-OK from a professional, you’ve got a great head start, and are well ahead of your neighbors. Next action items? Snow tires? Rock salt? A new shovel?

With all of the uncertainty that we live with daily, it’s reassuring to know exactly what to expect from the winter months:

It will be cold.

It will snow.

Roads will be treacherous at times.

You will need to turn the heat on.

Stay warm, and stay safe this winter, but until then enjoy the warm weather!Winter 2021-2022 Weather Forecast for Rochester
